Look out 2014 here I come!!

I have not always been enamored with the idea of a blog.  My daughter started her blog up, Polka Dots and Pearls a little over a year ago and it was fun to catch up with her that way since she lives quite a ways away.  Then about a month ago I was just surfing around the web and wiped out into a few running blogs.  I have been a runner all my life, running distances from the 800 to the marathon.  I compete in triathlons, ride in bike tours and have coached track and cross country for the last 15 years.  The blogs really caught my eye and sparked a fire in me to try one. I liked the idea of a running blog but did not want to limit myself to one topic as I wrote.  SOOOO, this blog is a collection of experiences and thoughts that I like to call LIFE AT FULL SPEED.

The title of this post is, Look out 2014 here I come.  I plan to put some ideas into play this year that will enhance my life.  The first one is an idea I came up with about a month ago. I ran it by my good friend and coaching partner, Wade.  The idea was to run 1400 miles in 2014.  That amount works out to be 3.8356161644 miles a day, 26.9230769 miles a week.  It does not sound like a huge amount until you start missing day or resting days and then I could get in over my head.  Wade decided to try it with me.  We will see how it works out.

The next idea just seemed to flow out of the first.  I love to bike both on my trusty Specialized Allez or on my Schwinn stationary bike in the basement.  I thought that they should not be left out of this 2014 challenge, so I set up another goal of riding 2000 miles this year.  That works out to be 5.47945205 miles a day.  Not nearly as hard as the run challenge, but I thought it would add to my overall fitness.

The third idea is also a fitness goal.  I have always felt I need runs or events to keep me excited and motivated.  I usually do about four or five events such as runs, rides and tri's to keep me going each year.  This year I am going to fill the cup a little fuller, I am going to do 14 events.  He is the tentative list.

  1. January 26, 2014.  Groundhog Run in Kansas City.  This is an underground run that I have done a couple times.   This year I will try the 10K.
  2. February 8, 2014.  Cupids's Combo in Wichita.  This will be a new race for me.  I will run the 10K.  You have the option to run it as a relay.
  3. March 16, 2014.  St. Pat's Run in Manhattan.  I have run this race more than any other in my life.  I started running this race back in the early 1980's.
  4. April 13, 2014.  Rock The Parkway in KCMO.  I have participated in this half marathon once before.
  5. May 4, 2014.  Prairie Fire Spring Half Marathon in Wichita. New race for me.
  6. June 7-14, 2014.  Bike across Kansas.  I have ridden this ride many times.
  7. August 9, 2014.  Salty Dog Triathlon in Hutchinson.  This is a great Tri that I have competed in a couple times.
  8. September 13, 2014.  The Plaza 10K in KCMO.  Another new race.
  9. October 12, 2014.  Prairie Fire Fall Half Marathon in Wichita.  I have taken part in this race each year they have had it.  Fun!!!
  10. November 8, 2014.  Santa Barbara Half Marathon in California.  My daughter and her husband recently moved to this area so I thought this would make a great destination race.
This list is not set in stone and I need to come up with at least four more.  I hope to to get a good start on these goals next!!

Till next time, Remember, Live Life at Full Speed!!
